On-going Support

The intent of Solutions II's Health Check service offering is to enhance or supplement existing IT resources at our customers' facilities. The Health Check services can be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Any of the services listed can be customized to meet individual business objectives. Solutions II personnel will require remote access to equipment and other facilities in order to meet objectives.

Health Check Services Overview

For a moderate investment our systems engineers will conduct regularly scheduled audits and provide recommendations on how to improve the performance and reliability of your technology environment. Each audit period our engineers will:

  • Audit and re-configure your information systems where appropriate
  • Recommend modifications to improve performance or increase availability
  • Apply any appropriate PTF's needed to keep your systems current
  • Assist internal resources with the installation and configuration of additional clients
  • Provide detailed documentation on the services performed each quarter
  • Deliver quarterly audit record, updated configuration documentation and a summary of proposed recommendations

During the contract period our engineers will also actively transfer knowledge on best practice configuration and management techniques to your internal resources.

TSM Health Check Services

Solutions II's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Health Check Services are designed to help IT operations maximize their TSM investment and minimize the support requirements for internal human resources. Provided the appropriate configuration and training, TSM can deliver the following benefits to your organization:

  • Reduce required tape hardware and network bandwidth
  • Speed recovery of data
  • Ensure reliability and integrity of backups
  • Limit impact of both planned and un-planned outages
  • Minimize IT staff requirements thereby reducing operating expenditures

Most importantly through proper configuration and education you can improve the productivity of the IT staff and as your storage management needs become more complex, Solutions II's TSM Health Check Services will help minimize operating costs while improving the ability of IT to respond quickly to emerging business demands.

Solutions II's TSM Health Check Services allow you to leverage the technical expertise of certified storage engineers in order to apply best practices to the configuration and management of your TSM environment. A Solutions II TSM engineer will work with your staff to analyze the current configuration, identify potential issues, make recommendations to improve system availability and performance and educate in-house resources on proper configuration and management techniques. The Solutions II Health Check Services contract is ongoing and the services will begin following the TSM implementation or initial assessment and be performed according to a defined schedule. An example of a schedule is:

In accordance with a defined schedule and in order to facilitate your specified objectives, Solutions-II will be responsible for performing the following as part of the Health Check Services contract:

TSM Validation and Configuration. Audit, recommend modifications and re-configure the current Tivoli Storage Manager where appropriate:

  • Audit current hardware environment
  • Audit current TSM software environment
  • Audit TSM server configuration and policy setup
  • Audit and recommend retention policy changes
  • Audit TSM client configuration and services
  • Audit defined client backup services
  • Audit client backup scheduling
  • Audit and validate security requirements (administrators)
  • Audit database backup/recovery procedures to increase performance or window
  • Audit storage pools, copy pools, database, and logs
    • Review and correct recovery log volume sizing and placement
    • Review and correct database volume sizing, capacity and placement
    • Check storage pools design to ensure proper hierarchy

Performance Optimization. Recommend reconfigurations of the TSM server to improve performance and/or increase availability:

  • System tuning and/or optimization planning
  • Logical configuration planning
  • Capacity planning
  • Volume management
  • Ensure cache hit ratios are within acceptable ranges
  • Install and configure additional TSM clients
  • Apply the latest TSM PTF's

Knowledge Transfer. Throughout the Health Check services engagement Solutions-II, Inc technical engineers will provide knowledge transfer via on-site sessions and remotely where appropriate. Solutions-II will also provide ongoing knowledge transfer for your technical staff for the following topics:

  • Problem determination
  • Volume management
  • Performance and tuning
  • TSM ‘Best Practice' configuration and administration guidelines

Documentation. Solutions II will provide your IT staff with detailed documentation on the services performed. Client documentation will be comprised of the following content:

  • TSM audit record
  • TSM environment health and status report
  • TSM configuration documentation
  • TSM recommendation summary report


VERITAS NETBACKUP Health

Solutions II's Veritas Netbackup Health Check Services are designed to help IT operations maximize their Veritas investment and minimize the support requirements for internal human resources. Provided the appropriate configuration and training, Veritas Netbackup can deliver the following benefits to your organization:

  • Reduce required tape hardware and network bandwidth

  • Ensure reliability and integrity of backups
  • Limit impact of both planned and un-planned outages
