Solutions II Wins IBM Beacon Award
March 4, 2004 - Solutions-II, Inc. has been honored with a 2004 IBM PartnerWorld® Beacon Award for "Best TotalStorage® On Demand Solution" in recognition for its successful implementation of a cost-effective on demand solution for The Sports Authority. The Best TotalStorage On Demand Solution award recognizes the IBM Business Partner that achieved the greatest results in providing on demand business solutions to customers. The winning company has adopted the storage virtualization strategy and embraced capacity on demand programs to provide their customers with the highest storage capability.
Solutions-II, Inc. drove the integration and consolidation of all applications, servers, storage, and backup and recovery processes for The Sports Authority, Inc. and Gart Sports Company after the two companies completed a merger in August 2003. With an aggressive 90-day timeline, Solutions-II, Inc. employed an on demand strategy to deliver a smooth integration that allowed the continuation of uninterrupted services to more than 400 stores owned by The Sports Authority. The solution included the consolidation and upgrade of existing Unix systems to an IBM eServerTM pSeriesTM, consolidation of the Intel infrastructure from Compaq servers to xSeriesTM, upgrade of the existing iSeriesTM servers, implementation of an enhanced, shared storage environment with TotalStorage, and implementation of enhanced backup and recovery.
The Sports Authority has seen significant results from the implementation. The consolidation and upgrade of servers and storage has resulted in floor space reductions, performance and availability enhancements and a reduction in storage management costs. "The Sports Authority engaged Solutions-II in the design, architecture and implementation of an on demand infrastructure capable of meeting and exceeding the data requirements of a 2 Billion dollar corporation within a 90 day window. It was the commitment, discipline and innovation of the Solutions-II and The Sports Authority implementation teams as well as the industry leading solutions from IBM that allowed us to exceed expectations within the aggressive time frame mandated by The Sports Authority's executive management," said Todd Bowling, President & CEO, Solutions-II, Inc. "This implementation for the Sports Authority is an outstanding example of how to deliver a successful IT integration in a complex merger environment and use on demand solutions to reduce costs and support ongoing growth. The judges chose Solutions-II, Inc. for driving high customer satisfaction with a smooth IT integration that included uninterrupted services and on-time project delivery," said Mike Borman, general manager, IBM Global Business Partners.
